AAP, Saurabh Bhardwaj
National News: AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj, addressing a press conference, said that courts and doctors often stress that if a road accident victim gets treatment within an hour, the chances of survival increase significantly. This was the reason the previous Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi launched the “Delhi Ke Farishte” scheme, under which any road accident victim was admitted to the nearest private hospital and the full treatment cost was borne by the Delhi government.
This scheme saved hundreds of lives, but Bhardwaj said it is deeply shameful that the current BJP government in Delhi has stopped it. He emphasized that this decision directly impacts people’s lives and can mean the difference between life and death.
Bhardwaj cited a letter from lawyer Ashok Agarwal detailing the accident of 26-year-old Aman Jha. After the accident, Aman was taken to the Spinal Injury Center, but was not treated. He was then moved to Fortis Vasant Kunj and Prima Super Specialty Hospital, where treatment was again denied. Finally, at Safdarjung Hospital, he died.
Aman Jha’s life was lost due to the lack of timely treatment. Bhardwaj said that it was to prevent such tragedies that the Delhi Ke Farishte scheme was launched. Under it, anyone bringing an accident victim to a hospital would have the entire treatment cost covered by the Delhi government.
Bhardwaj alleged that the BJP-ruled Delhi government has shut down this scheme. He pointed out that accidents don’t check whether the victim is a BJP supporter or not. This was a scheme meant for everyone, aimed at saving lives regardless of political affiliation.
He recalled that even during the AAP government’s tenure, BJP-appointed Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena tried to halt the scheme by blocking payments to private hospitals and stopping the release of funds. As Delhi’s Health Minister, Bhardwaj had to approach the Supreme Court, which ordered the release of funds, allowing the scheme to resume.
Through the media, Bhardwaj appealed to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, saying such life-saving schemes should not be discontinued for cheap political reasons. He urged that no more lives like Aman Jha’s should be lost on Delhi’s streets due to the lack of timely treatment.
